Breastfeeding your baby Empty Re: Breastfeeding your baby

Hi! I think its great that you're breastfeeding! I've thought long and and hard about it throughout my pregnancy and both my boyfriend and I decided breastfeeding is the best choice for our baby once hes born! Do you have any tips? anything that worked well for you? I know they say its hard during the first couple of weeks but I really have my mind set on breastfeeding. Any advice would be great! Thanks!

If you have ur heart set on it then chances are youll be able to...certain things can stop women from being able to BF like having a traumatic birth so being too tired to do it at the beginning or a very small percentage cannot produce milk - but thats like 2% they reckon so v unlikely. Otherwise with commitment u can manage...and u shouldnt ever feel worried about looking for support.
The best advice i can give tbh is to just hang in there! The first few weeks can be tough. To prevent nip problems i used a nipple cream from the beginning, before i felt any soreness whatsoever, after every single feed.
That meant the worse i got was a few 'Oooch' days.
The diffcult stage can be nethin from a week to a month or so...and growth spurts are tough but its all totally worth it imo.
Now BFing takes no thought whatsoever, no more stressin about latches or w/e Smile
It has to b one of my favourite bits of bein a mummy tbh Very Happy xxxxxxxx

Thats great to hear Very Happy
Thanks girls Smile...it can get annoying coz like at the youngmums classes i go to im the ONLY one (out of 20odd girls) who BFs but it makes me a mixture of embaressed and proud lol.
I think it seems to be fashionable for teens to be like 'eerrgh, yak!'
Its what theyr made for!
lol
meh, there seems to be mroe and more about tho so Vive La Revoloution!
lol!
Just as a side note bug if worst comes to worst dont let the obsession to feed stress you out too much - tbh there nothing worse u can do than stress 'i must feed imust feed i must feed' lol.
Just takes everything as it comes, if its going wrong then thats not the end of the world, u can always try again later and express for now. And if it rlly does come down to it and u have to use formula dont feel too bad.
It doesnt make u any less of a mother and you will still bond with your baby Smile
That said like i said b4, once u get over those 1st few weeks it does honestly get much easier! (the rockhard boobs goes down too lol Very Happy) xxxxxxx

That's really great you've breastfed exclusively! All the young mums I know, except for one , FF's so it's good to know I won't be one of the only ones out there lol I really want to breastfeed exclusively for at least a year, I've done alot of research and I really think think it's what is best for me and LO. But I've gotten so much crap from people that because I'm young I'll just give up, it'll be too painful, I won't stick it out etc. It kinda wants to make me do it all the more! So you would say that using nipple cream from the start really prevents sore nips? Did you use one of those breastfeeding pillows at all like the bobby or my breastfriend one? Sorry for all the questions lol

Good for you Smile
No i dont bother with the pillows, just stack up normal ones lol till we r both comfy. But YES i totally think u need to use the creams.
Iwould use the cream after EVERY single feed from day dot, youll know when ur nips are staring to harden n get used to it. Even if they arent sore at the beginning use it so they dont get sore.
There will be sore times and times u rlly dont want to feed them coz itll hurt but persevere through those and it will get easier,
now i dont even notice anything.
theres no effing around with latches etc, i just hold him there he pops himself on and goes to work.
Only problem now is popping off because he wants so giggle and play - cute but not useful for feeding lol xxxx
